I created Millbank and Kent Contemporary Wedding Stationery back in 2003 and launched in 2004. It was my ambition to establish my own business and leave the rat race of life that I had been leading up until that point. I missed being creative having enjoyed it very much prior to my financial accounting career.
My husband Rick and I are keen sailors and enjoyed at the time competing in National, European and World Championship class racing. We wanted the energy to still do this in our free time, rather than feeling exhausted from a draining week’s work being employed.
In 2002 we set off on an amazing year backpacking around the world. It made us realise that too much of our lives to date had been spent working long hours for others.
The aim for us on our return was to make our newly created businesses enjoyable and stress free. This would also give us more precious time to engage with our families and friends and enjoy our many hobbies.
I quit my finance career soon after my return from backpacking much to my colleague’s surprise and studied website and graphic design. I joined my husband, already running his own successful business, in our beautiful countryside outbuilding. I soon took over the space with all of my paper, card, and machinery! Rick is also a star at helping at busy times with production! (this then leaves time for pre-lunchtime cycle ride in the beautiful countryside that surrounds us :)
We have had no regrets ever since quitting employment, which enables our great work/life balance. I have had great pleasure producing stationery for 1000’s of couples and continue to enjoy the positive vibe of an excited couple to be with their new ideas and dreams.
I look forward to continuing encountering and producing stationery for many more couples.
